ronCurrent Responsibility: Ron Witten is Founder of Witten Advisors LLC, a multifamily market advisory firm based in Dallas.

The mission of Witten Advisors is to lead investors, developers and lenders to “market-smart” decisions on apartment acquisitions and new developments. Toward that end, Witten Advisors provides an ongoing market forecasting service that predicts supply, demand, occupancy and rent growth for the nation’s major apartment markets and translates those forecasts of market fundamentals into investment strategy and timing recommendations.

Experience: Ron began his career at M/PF Research in 1973 and became its president in 1978. In that role, Witten led M/PF as the firm became a national leader in apartment market data and market analysis. In July 1999, M/PF became a wholly owned subsidiary of RealPage, Inc. He continued as president of M/PF through 2000 and formed Witten Advisors in 2001.

Ron has been a frequent speaker on market conditions and trends as well as emerging demographic forces shaping the apartment markets, addressing meetings sponsored by organizations including the National Multifamily Housing Council, the Urban Land Institute, Multi-Housing World, Multifamily Executive Educational Conference, National Apartment Association, American Bankers Association, NAREIT, and others.

He authored the chapter on market analysis in the ULI’s Multifamily Housing Development Handbook as well as the multifamily chapter in ULI’s Real Estate Market Analysis, in addition to co-authoring two books on real estate markets and investment strategies. He has lectured on real estate markets at Southern Methodist University and the University of Southern California and has previously served as a director of banks and thrift institutions, both on behalf of management and at the request of federal regulatory authorities. He also serves on the board of TIER REIT, a NYSE-listed company which owns and operates office buildings.

Industry Involvement: Ron has been particularly active in the Urban Land Institute and the National Multi Housing Council. He has completed terms as Chairman of ULI’s Multifamily Silver and Gold Councils and served on ULI’s Program Committee for six years prior. He is a member of the Multifamily Blue Council at ULI as well as the National Multifamily Housing Council’s Research Committee. Witten co-developed and authored the NMHC’s quarterly Market Trends newsletter for the first years of its publication.

Educational Background: Ron received a BBA degree in Marketing from Texas Tech University and has completed graduate classes in Statistics and Economics at Southern Methodist University.
